About Recorded Video Research Consultations

About Recorded Video Research Consultations

Recorded video research consultations provide flexible research support to students on their time by creating customized, 30-minute recordings sent by email. The recorded sessions provide graduate and law students with focused tips to develop search strategies and identify relevant resources in response to their research questions.

Recorded video research consultations provide assistance in the following areas:

  • Developing a search strategy
  • Identifying relevant databases and journals
  • Finding and evaluating information resources
  • Discovering alternative search terms for a topic
  • Using advanced search techniques for specific databases
  • Narrowing search results

Launching the Service

NCU Librarians recognize that research happens 24/7 and that finding the right time to schedule a live, one-on-one session with a librarian might be challenging for students. A review of synchronous research consultations from July 2020 to March 2021 showed that 30 out of 146 students did not attend their scheduled appointment. Reasons for no-shows to a live, scheduled consultation included time zone confusion, family/personal conflicts, access issues, or simply forgetting.

In support of NCU’s 100 percent online programs, a recorded video research consultation service was developed as an asynchronous alternative for students and launched in November 2020.
