Getting Started with RefWorks

To create a RefWorks account:

  1. Go to

  3. You MUST sign-up with your NCU school email address. Using your NCU email address will confirm your eligibility for a free account.   4. Choose a password. Your password must be 6 or more characters (only letters and numbers are allowed). Create an Account with RefWorks select a password screen                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         
  5. An activation email with a link to complete your registration and confirm your account will be sent. NOTE: Check your spam/junk folder for this email. You must authorize your newly created account through this verification process in order to complete account set up.
  6. Once you click on the link in the activation email, you will be directed back to RefWorks to enter your name, role, and department affiliation.                                                             Complete RefWorks profile screen:   

If you are a JFKU student or faculty, please contact the NCU Library to create a RefWorks account:

You will be provided with a RefWorks activation link, code, and further instructions to finalize the creation of your account.

NOTE: The NCU Library and the NCU IT Help Desk is NOT able to reset your RefWorks password. 

To reset your RefWorks password:

  1. Go to and click on Forgot your password? RefWorks landing page with Forgot your Password? link
  2. Enter your NCU school email address, and click Continue. RefWorks will send an email with a link to reset the password for your account.
