NCU Summer Closure Notice

Greetings! The IRB will be closing on June 25, 2021 at 12pm PT for the NCU Summer Closure. NCU Summer Closure dates: June 28, 2021 through July 5, 2021. Please plan on submitting your IRB Application on or before June 11, 2021 if you plan on obtaining IRB Approval before the Summer Closure. Applications will not be reviewed until the IRB returns to the office on July 6, 2021. However, you may still work on your application during this time.

CITI Program

Adults 18 and Older

For most studies with adult participants, you will prepare the following materials for your IRB application:

  1. Eligibility Criteria
  2. Recruitment Materials
  3. Consent Letter
  4. Readability Reports

Students in K-12 Educational Settings

If your study is taking place in an everyday K-12 educational setting, where all students have an equal opportunity to get the ‘treatment’ (like a new curriculum a classroom), you will prepare the following documents:

  1. Eligibility Criteria
  2. Information Letter
  3. Readability Reports

Minors in Non-Educational Settings

If you are conducting research activities with minors (age 17 and under) that are outside of their normal K-12 routine or conducting research with minors you would not normally interact with, you will prepare the following materials:

  1. Eligibility Criteria
  2. Recruitment Materials
  3. Child Assent and Parental Consent Letter
  4. Readability Reports

Additional Documents for Human Subjects Research

You will need to provide your data instruments on your IRB application; for example, interview questions, focus group questions, survey, questionnaire, or observation sheet. If your study will have an online survey or questionnaire, please see our additional requirements and resources for setting up online surveys or questionnaires.

You may need to obtain permissions for your research if you will be doing any of the following:

  • Recruiting through a closed or moderated social media group
  • Using the physical or private resources of a site
  • Conducting research at a government or military site
  • Conducting research on-the-ground in a country outside the United States

You may also need to obtain a confidentiality agreement if you are hiring a private transcriber, translator, interpreter, or research assistant for your study.

Archival or Secondary Data Sets

If you are using an archival or secondary data set that is private (not publicly available), you will obtain a Data Use Agreement.
